Since 2006 Lima Atelier
In-House Production No Outsourcing
WSJ, GQ, Spiegel Press Recognition

Kai Zaunick founded this atelier in Lima, Peru, in 2006. Every pair of cufflinks is made to order in sterling silver 925, with 18-carat gold vermeil and solid 18-carat gold available on request. No serialised production. Each piece is the result of individual attention to the metal, the design, and the engraving that makes it specific to one person.

The catalogue holds over two hundred original designs, each available for personalisation. Most are ordered with engraving: initials, a date, a family crest, or a design that belongs to one person alone. A plain pair of cufflinks is a considered accessory. A personalised pair becomes something carried and returned to — the pair a groom wears on his wedding day and reaches for at every formal occasion that follows.

Twenty years at the atelier have produced a precise understanding of what translates cleanly at cufflink scale: which letterforms, which proportions, which details survive the reduction from drawing to metal. That understanding informs every commission that leaves this atelier.

Press Recognition

Cited in the Wall Street Journal, GQ and Spiegel for the quality of the engraving work and the rigour of the personalisation process.

Bespoke personalisation is not a feature layered on top of the work at this atelier. It is the work.

Materials and Craft

Every ZAUNICK cufflink begins in sterling silver 925. For those who prefer the warm tone of gold, each model is available in 18-carat gold vermeil — a sterling silver 925 base with an 18-carat gold bath applied in the atelier. Solid 18-carat gold pieces are produced on direct commission.

When engraving is applied, it is cut in depth into the metal. This is what distinguishes a piece that retains its definition after years of wear from one where the detail fades. It is the standard applied to every personalised cufflink that leaves this atelier.

The Personalisation Process

Engraving at this atelier covers initials and monograms through to heraldic crests and corporate logos. For standard engravings, the process is direct: after confirmation, the piece is produced and dispatched within 5–7 working days. For custom artwork, a digital proof is prepared and shared for approval. Nothing proceeds to production without written confirmation.

Not every design arrives ready to engrave. If a crest or logo is too detailed for the available surface at cufflink scale, Kai will say so before the order is confirmed. That conversation is better held before production begins than after.

The full range of personalised cufflinks is available online. For coordinated wedding party orders, the wedding cufflinks section covers sets and preferential conditions.

Responsibility

Production at the atelier is guided by environmental awareness. The chemical impact of the process is kept to a minimum. All precious metals are sourced from the region.
